Arcata Educational Farm

Carolan Raleigh-Halsing and Michele Hauk joined me for an interview in the KHSU studio, click here  to listen. You can get information about the CSA and community garden plots by contacting  baysideparkfarm@cityofarcata.org or by calling 707-822-7091.

The Arcata Educational Farm (AEF) has been operating as a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm since 1993. It started as HSU’s student operated farm and held a variety of workshops, classes, tours, and fieldtrips. Originally HSU leased the land from the city. Last year HSU did not renew their lease and the farm is now transitioning into a CSA farm overseen by the City of Arcata. It is still operating as an educational site where people with a passion for food and community can learn to be farmers.

Shares are priced at $400 for fullshare, and $250 for a halfshare. The 24 week share season starts in June and goes through October.

During the growing season the farm offers internships (with credit available through HSU) and volunteer opportunities.

The AEF is part of the Bayside Park located at 930 0ld Arcata Rd. The farm shares the 4 acre plot with the newly developed Bayside Park Community Garden. The community garden plots are 4’x25’ and are $75 for a 1-year rental, including water. The farm also has a Facebook page, which is updated with volunteer days and activities, pictures, and shareholder information.
